Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has been featured in films and on television, and in stage productions, is known for her role as Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney in Showtime's Soul Food. The actress is known under her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since when she was a child and won the Best Actress prize at an Maryland high school competition. Apart from her role as a theater actress and in the ballet company, she was also a part of the Washington Ballet Company. She earned an acting degree from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love earned her a first-class role. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark and Blue Streak. She was praised for her role on Soul Food. Her appearances were in TV shows such as Second Time Around, and Empire. At the beginning of her career she performed in various stage productions. Born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven. Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed world travels and a variety of civilizations at an extremely young age. She attended boarding school in London between seven and nine years of age, and then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a student and an expert in classical dancing in Toronto. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school that taught more than just dance but also theatre. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that performing would be her career. She had danced for over a decade. After graduating high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre. After one year at University, Contractor went to an open audition for the show Pericles at the prestigious, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the leading role. After 92 performances, she received praise from the audience. The play was deemed one of the most successful productions by Canadian critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to join Stratford's conservatory program, where only eight males and four women are accepted to take a crash course of 20 weeks in classical theatre, which she gladly accepted. Contractor's place in the following play season was secured and she was offered the part of Hermia.
